USDA reports soybean and corn plantings for 2025/26 above market expectations
The USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) has released its updated figures on the progress of planting in the country and presented higher than expected figures for both soybeans and corn.
As of Sunday (20), soybean planting had been completed in 8% of the area, against 7% of the market expectation, % of the previous week and well ahead of the average of 5%.
With regard to corn, the bulletin indicated that 12% of the area had been planted, while the market expected 10% and last week it was 4%. A year ago, the planting rate was 11% and the average is 10%. There are still 2% of cereal fields that have emerged, compared to 3% last year and the same 2% average.
Cotton sowing, according to the USDA, has reached 11% of the area, compared to 5% last week. In 2024 and on average, the figure is also 11%.
The report also pointed out that spring wheat has already been planted in 17% of the area, above what the market expected, with a figure of 13%. A week ago, planting was at 7% and a year ago at 14%. The average is 12%. As with corn, 2% of the areas have already emerged.
