Paraná's corn crop has second largest area in history
The area planted with corn in Paraná's second harvest has been revised and stands at 2.71 million hectares, according to the Agricultural Outlook Bulletin released on Thursday (24) by the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), of the State Secretariat for Agriculture and Supply (Seab). The figure represents an increase of 6.9% compared to the previous harvest and makes the current harvest the second largest in history in terms of area cultivated in the state, behind only the 2021/22 harvest, which covered 2.73 million hectares.
Despite the expansion, the production estimate, currently at 16.2 million tons, is at risk. According to Deral analysts, weather conditions have negatively affected crop development. “We have already observed irreversible losses amounting to 1.5% of the expected production, which is equivalent to around 240,000 tons,” the department's technicians said.
The bulletin indicates that although the area planted is among the largest ever recorded, the consolidation of production will depend on the evolution of the climate throughout the cycle. Deral will continue to monitor conditions over the coming weeks.
