Rice/Cepea: Exports grow and imports fall in the first half of the year
In the first half of 2025, Brazil's imports of rice, in husk equivalent, fell, while exports rose compared to the same period in 2024. Even so, the volume purchased exceeded that shipped in the balance of the first six months. According to Secex data analyzed by Cepea, Brazil exported 613,700 tons of rice in husk equivalent between January and June 2025, up 10.2% on the same period last year. Imports, on the other hand, fell by 12.8% to 694,500 tons in the six-month period. At the beginning of July, a Cepea survey showed that the paddy rice market in Rio Grande do Sul continues to operate with low liquidity, with agents waiting for more favorable conditions to sell the product. Prices have fluctuated between the micro-regions monitored by the Research Center in recent days. While in places with more supply, there were falls, in those with limited availability, prices rose due to the need to replenish stocks.
