Corn shipments increase compared to previous week, but remain 48% lower than the same month in 2024
Brazilian corn exports in July remain below the same pace recorded in the same period last year. According to the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex), the country shipped only 1,522,714.7 tons of unmilled corn (excluding sweet corn) in the first 19 business days of the month, representing only 42.8% of the volume exported in July 2024, which was 3,553,865.8 tons.
The average daily shipment was 80,142.9 tons, a 48.1% decrease compared to the 154,515.9 tons per business day recorded last year.
Although still below the 2024 level, shipments continue to gain pace. Until last week, the average daily shipment was 64,297.6 tons and has increased by more than 24% in the last five days.
StoneX's corn market intelligence analyst, Raphael Bulascoschi, highlights the slow start to Brazil's corn export program, but believes it will improve going forward.
"We've seen exports slow down a bit. The beginning of the year tends to be weaker due to seasonal factors, but even within the seasonal framework, exports were weaker due to a corn shortage in the domestic market. Now, with the arrival of the second crop, we should see a pickup in exports."
Bulascoschi also points out that, although the large supply has the potential to boost shipments, other issues still require producers' attention, such as international demand for the grain.
"With the arrival of the second crop, premiums in Brazil tend to become more attractive to the international market. So we'll be closely monitoring this export parity and Brazil's ability to be more active in the international market, which is a very important demand component to dilute our domestic supply, which tends to be very good this year. However, we've seen a low volume of international trade, so this will be a major focus going forward, because domestic supply alone won't determine these exports," the analyst points out.
In terms of revenue, Brazil collected US$321.190 million in the month to date, compared to US$700.644 million in the entire month of July 2024. The daily average fell 44.5%, from US$30.4 million to US$16.904 million per business day.
On the other hand, the average price paid per ton jumped 7% in the period, going from US$ 197.20 in July 2024 to US$ 210.90 so far in July 2025.
