From January to June 2025, Mato Grosso exported 368,800 tons of beef to 77 countries. Compared to the first half of 2024, there was a 5.7% increase in beef exports, which totaled 348,800 tons in the same period last year. The data was released by the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea).

"We are experiencing a historic moment, with the growing recognition of Mato Grosso's production chain for quality and sustainability. This combination has generated confidence among international buyers and fueled genuine optimism that we will break records throughout 2025," says Bruno de Jesus Andrade, Project Director at the Mato Grosso Meat Institute (Imac).

Among the factors contributing to this increase is the expansion of destination markets, which increased from 74 in 2024 to 77 in 2025. Countries that purchased Mato Grosso beef this year include Chile, Russia, Egypt, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Italy, Spain, Israel, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Albania, and Turkey.

China remains the main destination for Mato Grosso beef, having imported 182,700 tons, representing 49.5% of the total. The United States comes in second, with 26,500 tons, equivalent to 7.2% of Mato Grosso's beef exports in 2025.

Beef produced in Mato Grosso is also gaining value in the international market, with an increase in the price paid per ton. In the first half of 2024, the average value was US$4,500, rising to US$5,100 this year.

"Beef remains the state's main exported animal protein, which demonstrates the strength of our livestock industry. We will continue working to expand into new markets, especially in East Asia and the European Union, where we have good prospects for expansion in the medium term," says Imac's Project Director.
