Chicken/Cepea: Purchasing power compared to bran reaches record high
The purchasing power of poultry farmers in São Paulo for soybean meal – one of the main inputs for the activity – reached a record high in October, considering the entire historical series of Cepea, which began in July 2004. According to the Research Center, this result shows that, despite the challenges brought about by the avian flu outbreak in May this year at a commercial farm in Rio Grande do Sul, the national poultry sector proved to be effective, complying with all the protocols required at the time and ensuring a rapid recovery. Cepea calculations indicate that, in October, with the sale of one kilogram of live chicken in the state of São Paulo, it was possible to purchase 3.85 kilograms of bran, a volume 10% higher than in September and a significant 49.3% above that recorded in October 2024, in real terms (deflated by the IGP-DI index for September 2025). Researchers explain that this more favorable scenario for poultry farmers is mainly linked to the strong reaction of live chicken prices in the domestic market, which are already operating at pre-avian flu levels, and also to the devaluation of soybean meal.
