Wheat week begins busy
The week began with increased activity in the wheat market, driven by exports and a slight improvement in the competitiveness of domestic wheat compared to imported wheat, according to TF Agroeconômica. In the South of the country, activity was uneven across states, with Paraná facing a cautious scenario, Santa Catarina beginning the commercialization of the new harvest, and Rio Grande do Sul resuming exports.
In Rio Grande do Sul, the market for milling wheat registered deals up to R$ 1,155.00 per ton at the port for December, while the product destined for animal feed reached R$ 1,120.00. In the interior, prices varied between R$ 1,000.00 and R$ 1,030.00, depending on freight costs. Mills offered prices between R$ 1,060.00 and R$ 1,150.00 CIF, depending on the region. The highlight was the renewed competitiveness of Paraná wheat compared to Argentinian wheat, thanks to its good quality and more balanced prices. In Panambi, the price of wheat remained stable at R$ 55.00.
In Santa Catarina, the ongoing harvest is beginning to unlock commercialization, but sellers and buyers remain far apart in negotiations. While producers are asking R$ 1,200.00 per ton FOB, industries are offering between R$ 1,100.00 and R$ 1,150.00. Some offers are still coming from Rio Grande do Sul, at around R$ 1,080.00 FOB plus R$ 180.00 in freight, and from São Paulo, at R$ 1,250.00 CIF. Mills in Santa Catarina are working between R$ 1,130.00 and R$ 1,150.00 CIF. In terms of prices paid to producers, there were small regional variations, with values ranging between R$ 61.00 and R$ 64.25 per sack.
In Paraná, the market remains stagnant, with mills well-supplied and deals focused on January. Prices are around R$ 1,200.00 CIF in Curitiba, up to R$ 1,280.00 in the north of the state. Cheaper Paraguayan wheat is putting downward pressure on prices in the west and Campos Gerais regions.
