Agrural: Soybean planting in Brazil reaches 89%, with drought conditions still affecting parts of the Cerrado region
The estimated area for the 2025/26 soybean crop was 89% planted in Brazil as of Thursday (27), according to a survey by AgRural. The index represents an increase of 8 percentage points over the 81% recorded a week earlier, but is still slightly lower than the 91% recorded a year ago.
Although rainfall has improved in the Cerrado, the “spotty” pattern of precipitation still results in drought spots in the Cerrado, especially in Mato Grosso, Goiás, Maranhão, and Piauí. In Rio Grande do Sul, which started the harvest with excessive rainfall, the reduction in humidity is also already on producers' radar. However, it is still too early to talk about productivity losses.
Summer corn
Planting of the 2025/26 summer corn crop, in turn, reached 99% of the estimated area for Central-Southern Brazil on Thursday (27), compared to 93% a week earlier and 97% in the same period last year, according to a survey by AgRural. In the most advanced areas of Rio Grande do Sul, producers hope that the return of rains will reduce crop stress after the drier pattern of the last two weeks.
